September 19th Release

Yesterday Apple unveiled its new products; the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 8 and the Apple Watch.

In this blog we will look at the new iPhone and the new features of iOS8.

iPhone 6

iPhone 6 and 6 Plus

Apple are releasing two iPhones this time round both with bigger screens. The iPhone 6 has a 4.7 inch screen which is an improvement on the 5S which only had a 4 inch screen. The iPhone 6 Plus is shipping with a 5.5 inch screen.

  • Bigger Screens

With the bigger screens comes a better display, the iPhone 6 is sticking with the same 326 PPI density as the 5S but comes with a bigger resolution screen at 1337×750. The iPhone 6 Plus however ships with a full 1920×1080 resolution screen at 401 PPI density.

  • New Camera Technology

The iPhone also ships with a new camera and camera software allowing for faster focusing, exposure control and a photo editing app. As well as new tech for photos it also has improvements to video that include 1080p recording at 60 fps, 240 fps slow-motion, time-lapse setting and an improved FaceTime front camera.

  • Contactless Payment

Apple have also included NFC technology allowing you store credit and debit card information and use your phone and Touch ID to pay for products in stores that support contactless payment. You can also use Apple pay to buy things in apps.

IOS 8

Along with the release of the new iPhone, Apple will also be releasing IOS 8, although a bit earlier than the phone on the 17th of September. IOS 8 provides several improvements to the base operating system as well as some of the native apps.

  • Photo Editing

IOS 8 now includes a photo editing app that provides smart composition tools, adjustments and photo filters.

  • Messages

New message app updates include the ability to send sound and video messages, provide new options for managing group messages and the ability to share your location.

  • Notification Centre

The new notification drop-down now let respond to messages, calendar appointments and third-party apps without leaving the app that you are using.

  • Favourite and Recent Contacts

Recent and favourite contacts are now listed in the multitasking interface allowing you to quickly get in contact.

  • Keyboards

As well as also now allowing support for third-party keyboards there have been several improvements to suggested words and predictive text.

  • Family Sharing

New family sharing options allow you to share music, movies, books and apps with your linked family members iCloud account. Organize your family with shared calendars, locate family members and more control over kid’s apps with ask to buy sending a message to a parents device for approval.

  • Health App

Also included is the new health app that keeps all your health data in an easy to read dashboard and also allow fitness app developers to also integrate their apps to give you better control over your health.
