The Lowdown on Smart Kettles

The Lowdown on Smart Kettles

If you’re reading this over a morning cuppa, chances are you’ve had to switch the kettle on.

If only we didn’t have to get off our lazy bums, walk all the way to the kitchen, flick the kettle on and wait for the thing to boil! As much as we love our regular kettles, what we wouldn’t give to be able to flick it on without missing another moment of Corrie.

Aha! What if we were to tell you this dream can now become a reality? Yes, you read right. There is now such a thing as no-hassle drink preparation.

No more dashing out of bed on a morning trying to fit in a brew before work! New smart kettles have arrived with an array of handy features which allow users to control their appliance from anywhere in the home via their smart phone. Avid tea fans and tech lovers alike will find this nifty gadget very difficult to resist!

The benefits of smart kettles;

  • Temperature control settings mean that your hot beverage will never be lukewarm again!
  • Smart scheduling and water monitoring allow you to save energy and the planet.
  • Avoid numerous unnecessary trips to the kettle; this could be very helpful for people with restricted mobility.
  • Be more productive at work and waste no more time waiting for the kettle to boil!

The world’s first Wifi Kettle, the iKettle, has 4 temperature control settings and can be switched on from the comfort of your sofa via a smart phone. With its stainless steel shell and newly available ikettle skins, it is also now matchable to your home décor.

The iKettle features a ‘wake’ mode which can be set to send you the friendly message: ‘Good morning! Would you like me to pop the kettle on?’ No more annoying alarm clocks!

Another newly developed smart kettle is the appkettle which is due to launch on Kickstarter on March 31st. The appkettle prides itself on providing simple, effective and intuitive kettle control for all. Through its ingenious cloud system, users are able to connect to their home appliance and control temperature, scheduling and energy.

Perhaps one of the most useful features of the appkettle is the ‘Drive Home Boil’ mechanism which allows users to calculate their position relative to their kettle and coordinate heating depending on the distance to arriving home. The kettle also has the capacity to pause and heat depending on the user’s position. So by the time you reach home you should have a kettle full of hot water, ready for that much needed cuppa!

At around £100, smart kettles can be quite pricey. We’ll let you decide whether this is a fair price to pay for never having to wait for the kettle to boil again!
