Facebook messenger has added a feature which is ‘Live location’ revealing to all your friends where you are. As good as it sounds, it feels a bit like you’re on Big Brother!
If your location services for Facebook are switched on, you can temporarily share your location with your friends either in a group chat or individually. You can organise meet ups with your friends if you are both nearby, which features like this are useful for. It can also be handy if you get lost and your friend knows where you are. It also gives you the option to stop sharing your location.
Although it is a good idea, on the other hand people can see it as a disadvantage because it can invade their privacy. Some people can feel insecure when they are being tracked which is why they have their location services turned off. The feature will not work unless the settings for your location are switched on.
How do you share your location with someone?
Sharing your location is easy to do. You need to make sure the app is open on the Facebook messenger app and click the blue triangle which then gives you the option to share your location with the friend or group you have open.
How can you make sure you’re not being tracked?
If you value your privacy above anything else and you want to make sure that the location service is switched off then just simply go to your location settings on your phone and ensure that it is switched off.
