There’s never a moment where you’re out and about desperate to connect to Wi-Fi because you either have no data or you don’t want to end up going over and having to pay extra on your contract. Not everywhere has Wi-Fi and it can be a real pain if you have that pending Facebook notification waiting for you to view. Well, you can now go on Facebook for just a few minutes on your 3G or 4G to find out where you can find an internet connection.

What is the new feature?

It’s called ‘Find Wi-Fi’ and it’s pretty self explanatory, it shows you where there are Wi-Fi hotspots in your area that you can connect to. It has been tested in several countries and has great reviews, so they will be releasing the new feature on iPhone and Android.

When the results come up on the map, you may discover that some Wi-Fi’s will be password protected. This is because a business shares their page on Facebook so it will pick up the fact they have Wi-Fi access, but it can help you in local coffee shops or restaurants with finding Wi-Fi.

Like I said, it will require you to use your mobile data just until you manage to find and connect to a hotspot, but it won’t take up a lot of your data. All you need to do is go to the ‘more’ tab on the app, then go to ‘explore’ which will bring you to the ‘Find Wi-Fi’ button. This will bring up a map and indicate where you are and where your nearest hotspots are.

To know where your nearest hotspot is, you’ll need to make sure that your location settings are switch on your iPhone. If this feature isn’t enabled, you can simply go to the ‘Settings’ then ‘Privacy’ and that is where the location settings will be.
