If you’re a Harry Potter fan, you might remember The Daily Prophet; a magical newspaper which featured moving images of fictional witches and wizards. Wouldn’t it be fantastic if we could make this magic come to life?
It would appear that Facebook have attempted to do just that. The social media platform is now allowing users to put a 7 second video in place of their static profile picture; just like the moving pictures in The Daily Prophet!
Facebook says this new feature will solidify online identities and make connecting with others much more real. Unfortunately you’ll need to be on Facebook’s mobile app for iOS or Android for this feature to work.
If you would like to create your own profile video then tap the ‘More’ button in the lower right hand corner of the app. Next, tap your name to open your profile page and click on your profile picture. Here, choose either to Take New Profile Video or Upload Video or Photo.
Other recent updates to Facebook include the ability to add temporary profile images. Understanding that many Facebookers change their profile picture on a regular basis, Facebook has allowed users to schedule a profile image to last a certain period of time before disappearing and reverting back to the original.
Another addition can be seen when browsing video within Facebook — after tapping one video, a list of related videos appears underneath.
Facebook has over a billion users, most of whom access the site on mobile devices and the latest emphasis on video could be set to raise this figure!
