Earlier this year, Instagram confirmed that they were developing business profile pages. The speculation was that they would be very similar to Facebook business pages, which have become quite a useful tool for large and small businesses alike.
These two blog post have highlighted the new features that differentiate an Instagram personal page from an Instagram business page.
The main 3 are:
- call to action button: useful to get potential customers to act on your page
- maps and directions: great when someone is trying to find you when out and about
- categorized pages: so users know what type of business you are
Some of these features are shown below, from the Later.com blog:

These new features will undoubtedly be useful tools as Instagram has always lacked the ability to differentiate businesses and companies from personal accounts.
However, this is paving the way for further advertising and exposing Instagram to more advertising opportunities. We have seen adverts and rotating video ad carousels being used, so more advertising is definitely on the way once the business profiles are launched.
Instagram is adopting similar functionality to Facebook to increase exposure and revenue!
