Instagram, the popular social media app that lets you share photos and videos, has released its latest new feature – Instagram Stories.
Basically, Instagram Stories allows you to share all your posts throughout the day and also add text, filters and drawings to them. Your story will then disappear after 24 hours and doesn’t appear on your profile or feed.
If you’ve ever used Snapchat, then you will know that Snapchat first created this feature way back with Snapchat Stories.
Therefore, many people on the internet are seeing the similarities between the two and accusing the Facebook-owned Instagram of “re-using” Snapchat’s idea.
How to use Instagram Stories
Firstly, you swipe right from your main Instagram feed. This will access the camera.
You can then take your photo or video.
Once taken, you have the option of drawing on it, adding text or emoji’s and also adding filters.
When you have finished, simply tap on the tick at the bottom of your screen to publish.
How to view other people’s Instagram Stories
It is really simply to view stories of people you follow. Anyone who has posted a within the last 24 hours story appear at the top of your feed in a circle. Simply click the circle to view the story.
Instagram Stories is a new feature for Instagram, so it is quite simple and with limited filters and features. However, as we have seen with Snapchat, you can be assured that there will be more features added and it will grow.
For businesses, however, we are not convinced Instagram Stories will be a useful tool. Removing content after 24 hours isn’t a great way to showcase your portfolio.
