Sage have released Sage Accounts 50 2012. What’s new about that I hear you ask, don’t Sage release a new version every year?
Well this version includes a mobile application for iPhone and Blackberry. Sage are still developing a version for the iPad and Andriod.
Now this has me asking myself, “do I really need to access my accounts data on the move?” I am not an accountant and it makes me feel like data overload, extending my dismay of looking at my accounts wherever I am.
Then the more I thought about it the more I thought it has its place for certain professionals. The key is how often you use Sage and what you use it for. For example, you can create a quotation or invoice whilst on a customer site (but you can’t email them a copy immediately) or you could check a customers balance before discussing a new project.
As Sage developers, we have customised not only our own internal systems but many customers ones as well to improve efficiency, but mobile data is one area which Sage seem keen to be moving forward in. I hope Sage performs faster on the mobile than a desktop PC but I am not holding my breath. I will post back here when I check its performance.
I’m coming around to the idea . . . . but will I ever put down my phone with all this data overload?
