A Day in the Life of a Developer

Ever wondered what it’s like to be a software developer? We took ten minutes out Andreas Kyriacou’s busy schedule to find out what he gets up to on a day to day basis.

Why did you want to become a software developer?
I have always had an interest in computers and technology and I am definitely a more practical than theoretical person. I thought that software development would be a good combination of my interests and skills.

What did you do before you joined Aspect IT?
I worked in my home country of Cyprus as a web developer. It was a very similar position to the one I undertake now; this helped me quickly settle into my role at Aspect. Before I became a developer, I studied Computer Science at Frederick University in Cyprus.

Are there any particular skills a software developer needs?
No, I don’t think you need any particular skills for software development. You just need a bit of practice and a lot of patience.

What do you enjoy the most about your job?
The best thing about my job is the feeling I get after I successfully complete a project. It gives me great satisfaction to know that I created something that other people can use to make their job easier. I also really enjoy learning new technologies to help me complete certain projects.

What are your favourite tools to get the job done?
My music! I can’t work without it. You will often find me listening to rock music while I work!

In your opinion what does the future of software development look like?
Mobile apps. Everything is getting smaller and I think eventually everything will move to mobile.

When your not developing, what are you doing?
Mostly watching movies and following my favourite football team!
